AeroTech Releases New 38mm High Power DMS™ Motor
AeroTech Information Release 12/28/16

AeroTech is pleased to announce a new 38mm DMS™ Disposable Motor System™ single-use rocket motor.

The H283ST-15A (P/N 082814) uses AeroTech’s new Super Thunder™ propellant and produces the signature violet-blue flame Super Thunder™ is known for. The motor delivers 201 N-sec of total impulse in 0.7 seconds making it ideal for Level 1 certification flights in heavier rockets. The H238ST-15A comes with an adjustable 15-second delay, which can be adjusted using the AeroTech Universal Delay Drilling Tool (P/N UDDT).

The H283ST-15A may be purchased by certified consumers 18 years of age or older. The H283ST-15A ships with a FirstFire Jr™ igniter and carries a suggested retail price of $35.99.

75 & 98mm RMS™ Reload Kit Grain Bonding Advisory
Dear AeroTech/RCS Dealers and Customers,

Over the past 26 years we have accumulated and examined a great deal of in-house test data and customer field experience with the RMS Reloadable Motor System™. In addition, the development of new products such as the recently-released Super Thunder™ 98mm reloads have required us to test the limits of the system, pushing it to generate performance numbers previously unheard of from AeroTech products.

During this testing, development and use we have discovered certain motor configurations that have benefitted from bonding the propellant grains into the liner prior to firing to achieve enhanced reliability. Not only does it prevent movement of the grains toward the nozzle during acceleration and the differential chamber pressure experienced during startup (which can cause a CATO if the aft propellant grain collapses under pressure and plugs the nozzle), it appears to greatly reduce instances of “tunneling” where hot gases penetrate the spiral gaps in the propellant casting tubes, causing the propellant to burn on the outside of the grain that is normally inhibited by the tube.

Therefore, we are advising all our customers to bond the grains of the following reload kits into their liners with Elmer’s Glue-All Max™. This is a polyurethane glue with minimal foaming and expansion to prevent the liner from cracking during cure, and has a long working time. The bonding process itself takes only a few minutes after which the glue should be allowed to cure overnight before use.

The reload kits affected by this advisory are:

75mm
K1000T, L1520T, L2200G, M1500G, M1780NT

98mm
L1500T, M2400T, L2500ST, M4500ST, M1845NT, M2100G, M2500T, M2000R, M6000ST, N2000W, N3300R, N2200DM

If you have any of these reload kits in your possession, we strongly advise you to bond the grains into the liner prior to flight for maximum reliability. All new production lots of these reload kits will now include a copy of the grain bonding instructions along with the standard assembly instructions.

Three New 54mm Floating Forward Closures Now Available
AeroTech Consumer Aerospace is excited to announce the release of three (3) new 54mm floating forward closures for use with the 54mm Reload Adapter System™. The new closures will allow flyers to use the 54mm Reload Adapter System™ with every 54mm reload kit in the AeroTech lineup. CTI 75mm Reloads Used in AeroTech Hardware Advisory
Dear AeroTech/RCS Dealers and Customers,

We have become aware of a problem that has occurred when customers use Cesaroni Technologies (CTI) 75mm rocket motor reload kits loaded in AeroTech RMS hardware. There have been a number of instances in which the motor casing gets very hot near the forward end of the casing (immediately below the forward bulkhead), and in some instances a blister develops on the casing. In most situations this renders the casing unusable for future flights.

This problem is caused by hot gases passing between the casing and the liner at the forward bulkhead end, which occurs in the moments following ignition of the motor. In most rocket motors, especially those with long L/D ratios, there is a significant difference in the internal pressure of the motor between the aft and forward ends, due to the velocity of the gases in the motor being higher at the nozzle end. This pressure differential allows a small amount of gas to travel around the outside of the liner, through the liner/nozzle joint and out the nozzle throat. AeroTech recognized this phenomenon many years ago and implemented a “forward seal disk” (FSD) in its longer L/D motors (and exclusively in the 75 & 98mm RMS motors). The FSD effectively seals the joint between the case and the liner, preventing any gas from escaping through the gap. Unfortunately, CTI motors are not designed to be truly sealed at the liner/casing interface and only have a phenolic washer captured between the liner and the forward bulkhead in an interference fit. This arrangement does not provide a complete seal and will occasionally allow enough gases to pass around the liner and cause a hot spot, casing blister or in worst cases, a burn-through.

Therefore, customers who choose to use CTI reloads in AeroTech RMS hardware are advised to include AeroTech’s forward seal disk and forward seal disk O-ring when assembling their motors. This will minimize the case blistering problem. As an added bonus, it makes the motor hardware far easier to clean up after recovery.

NOTE: AeroTech/RCS does not recommend the use of CTI reloads in AeroTech RMS hardware and cannot warranty any resulting motor failures from this combination. Customers who seek warranty repair or replacement under these circumstances are advised to contact CTI directly.

AeroTech Releases USPS Shippable 38mm H and I Reloads
AeroTech Consumer Aerospace proudly announces the release of two (2) new 38mm reloads, both of which are able to ship via U.S. Mail. The H130W reload kit uses 4 smaller grains in place of the 2-grain design typically used in an RMS 38/240 motor while the I180W reload kit uses 6 smaller grains in place of the 3-grain design typically used in an RMS 38/360 motor. These design changes allow the reload kits to be shipped via U.S. Mail, avoiding the $30 hazardous fee currently in place for motors that ship UPS or FedEx. Both motors have a 14-second adjustable time delay and may be shortened by up to 8 seconds using the AeroTech RMS Delay Drilling Tool (RDDT, P/N T082510-1). The H130W and the I180W may be purchased by consumers 18 years of age or older, and require a level 1 certification. The reload kits ship with a FirstFire™ igniter and carry a suggested retail price of $27.99 and $39.99 respectively. AeroTech Introduces AT Crossloads after 75mm Reloads Certified for Use with CTI Hardware
AeroTech Consumer Aerospace is pleased to announce the certification of all AeroTech 75mm reloads with the use of Cesaroni Technology Incorporated 75mm hardware.
